Dobongsan: Seoul’s toughest hike

Dobongsan’s Jaunbong Peak

Hi! I’m back again with my hiking storytime. This time, I explored a mountain near Seoul called Dobongsan, which is a part of Bukhansan National Park. It’s great to finally hike around Seoul, and there are still so many mountains in the area that I haven’t hiked yet. The elevation gain for this hike is 645m, and the altitude of Jaunbong Peak is around 740m. While reading this blog, feel free to listen to the playlist I made, which describes how I feel while hiking this mountain.

Dobongsan Hiking Experience

I traveled from Incheon to Dobongsan Station (line 1) by metro, which took us approximately 2 hours to reach. The mountain entrance is around 1km away from the station. When we arrived at the gate I thought it was a really nice trail but oh boy was I wrong

We start our hike around 9am and it took us around 2-3 hours, it could be faster but I’m a slow hiker so…..

I hiked with my friend and his friend who I just met, and he’s a very tall person so 1 step of his is 2 steps for me lol, but he was kind enough to wait for me, I think if he hiked without me he could get to the peak in 1 hour.

Oh well, the hike up was steep and very rocky, as shown in the pictures below, but there were also some stairs. For me, this hike was very challenging, and I had to rest a lot. I love hiking, but as always, I questioned myself, “Why did I do this to myself?” and that question popped up every 2 minutes, lol.

But we reach the peak anyways and it was a really good view of other mountains at Bukhansan National Park, it’s a really great hike if you want a break from city view. Here are some pictures from Jaunbong Peak!

The hike down

When I was at the peak, I was very happy, thinking, “Yeay, I reached the top and now it’s all downhill” but oh I WAS SO WRONG. We followed our friend right, I think he doesn’t feel the hike up was challenging enough. So he chose this black trail (the hardest trail) going down and for me, it was crazy LOL.

It’s not even a hike down, it’s a constant cycle of hiking up and down, up and down, and up again and so on :(. We even reached another peak. Oh my god, I’M DYING, really, and my knee is killing me. Here are some pictures of it.

Anyways, we finished our hike in a total of 4.5 hours. For me, it was the hardest hike so far. But I love it, it’s just great to be around nature, and I really like all the rocks (lol). But yeah, overall, it was a great experience. I love it. 5/5 for me. bonus some film pics I took on the mountain
